RESEARCH

With ith a commitment to increase services and resources for clients, as well as to demonstrate the effectiveness of treatment, CDTC has a distinguished history of participation in nationally recognized research. The Center’s Research Program is the only-non university site for pediatric clinical trials in the country funded by the National Institutes of Health. This research focuses on two high risk populations: medically fragile infants with perinatal complications or chronic illnesses, including infants, children and youth with HIV. In 2006 alone, CDTC participated in over 40 research protocols addressing HIV/AIDS in children and adolescents, as well as studies relating to the long term effects of perinatal complications.

New Research Programs

The Longitudinal Epidemiologic Study to Gain Insight in HIV/AIDS in Children and Youth (LEGACY) project is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Through the mobilization of the coalition and the community, groundbreaking prevention interventions will be identified to lower the rates of HIV and AIDS in young adults who are at highest risk in Broward County.

Research has impacted the lives of many adolescents through the Adolescent Trials Network (ATN) . ATN 004 is a behavioral research study targeting medical adherence, sexual risk, and drug and alcohol use. The Study focuses on helping teens make healthier choices in their lives.
